Running at Startup

I've been googling around trying to find a way to use the registry to run a program at startup.

I don't know if I was successful or not, because as soon as I ran the program, my antivirus (kaspersky internet security) quarantined it!

Is there any way to avoid this?
There's tons of ways to start programs via the registry. Some of them, like the one you found, appear malicious to anti-virus software.
The way around this is
1. Turn of your anti-virus
2. Find a different way to start the program.

I'll recommend the second. :P

Okay. I'll try and google some more because I can't turn off someone elses anti-virus unless I make one pretty dang sneaky virus of my own.

Which I won't do.
Well, maybe I should test it with other antivirus programs.
Haha.
I had an issue with a semi-malicious program running itself from startup via my registry, and my anti-virus didn't catch it. (I say semi-malicious because it was more annoying than it was harmful to my computer, lol.)
I'll try to remember the registry key, if i have any luck i'll get back to you.
You need to put a link to your program in the user's Start Menu\Programs\Startup directory.

On XP, that would be something like "C:\Documents and Settings\Joseph\Start Menu\Programs\Startup".
