Small problem, sargon... Disch IS a humorless programmer. Except... wait... what does humorless mean again?

humorless |ˈ(h)yoōmərles| ( Brit. humourless)
adjective
1. Doesn't. Enjoy. Irritating. Others. :P

If that particular chat was being used to distribute... I dunno... child pornography, then that would justify an attack. If you were doing it just for fun, then I generally look down on this sort of hacking, because this does affect a small group of people who don't deserve that kind of nonsense (or do they, and if they did, prove it, please). That's my opinion.

1.) The lone streaker during the Olympic opening ceremony (maybe it was the closing)---The orgainizers of the olympics I am sure did not find it funny; but it was.

2.) Andy Kauffman wrestling women to prove male superiority--I still meet people today who are mad at him and never found out it was a prank.

3.) The guy who pushes every button in the elevator before he gets out. (I've been on that elevator and you would have thought a felony had been committed.)

4.) Entering a forum discussion about religion and making idiotic statements. People take an enormous amount of pride in refuting an idiotic statement and they never know they are being pranked; it is very funny.

5.)

Oh, he is? Ok then.

That group was made by me for the pupose of trying to crash a facebook service (the Group Chat). It I had crashed someone else's, I would agree with you. Since I made myself for myself though, I don't see this as being a problem. The chat was made for the purpose of being destroyed. Today I'm going to do it again, but this time I'm counting to see how many members it takes.
Okay apparently I misunderstood. I thought you meant you crashed the whole chat service so that nobody could use group chat.

I didn't know you meant you only crashed one particular chat room that nobody was using.

My mistake. I apologize. You're not an asshole after all. It appears that I'm the asshole.

@chwsks

Fair enough... my exact term is ill defined. So point taken. There's definitely a line somewhere though. Perhaps I can't define exactly where the line is drawn, but there definitely is a line somehwere (although it may be in different places for different people?)

To address each individual point:

1) I don't think this is a prank, so much as it's just attention seeking.

2) This is a really good example. I can see your point with how it angered some people, yet I would definitley classify it as a prank and I found it completely hilarious. On the other hand the only people that are mad at him for it were people that didn't realize it was a joke.

More importantly, he could be ignored. You actually had to go out of your way to be involved in that.

3) This is assholish behavior. Akin to kicking out someone's cane from underneath them.

4) So basically trolling? Another good point, as trolling can be completely hilarious. But it also is detrimental and assholish. I'd qualify it as being an asshole, even if I'm guilty of it myself from time to time. XD

5) I don't get it? Although I never found Monty Python to be funny.

Sometimes it is funnier when the target does not get it.

Point taken, as is the case with the Andy Kaufman scenario. If everybody knew it was a joke and nobody got mad at him, it wouldn't have been funny.

Okay, Disch++. If you made that chat with the intention of crashing it, okay, nevermind. :)

Yes I did. A scientific experiment of sorts. That being said people still got mad.
I only got mad because I misunderstood =(

Sorry
No you're fine. Facebook people got mad.
I thought you said it didn't affect anyone on facebook?
I never said that. did I?
*facepalms*

Well I don't use facebook so I don't really know wtf you're talking about.... which is probalby why I keep misunderstanding you.

I would ask you to explain further, but honestly I don't really care.

So in closing I'll just respond to this:

people still got mad.

People tend to get mad when you mess with their stuff. You shouldn't have been surprised by this.

EDIT:

Also bear in mind that whenever you break something, someone has to fix it.

I am slowly fixing it. And I don't what I'm talking about anymore. It's been a tiring 2 days. Let's say we end this?
// What's with Disch targeting me? The way I type has NOTHING to do with C++ comments, it has to do with this forum not letting me put multiple spaces together to form an indentation, so I use 2 symbols and a space to do that.
// Also, Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of FaceBook literally probably would be proud(Zuckerberg "clearly thinks of himself as a hacker" and says hacking isn't about "breaking and entering," it's about "being unafraid to break things in order to make them better."). I'm not a part of the whole conversation of morals on that, my post was only related to the fact that Mark Zuckerberg is a proud hacker. If you told FaceBook what you did and how, they might be able to fix that exploit.

Right but it looks like comments because // is how you make comments in C++. That was the joke.

I wasn't intending to target you. I was just ... you know what... whatever.

Fine. I was targetting you. I think it's rather silly that you do that and it makes your posts harder to read.

Maybe I'm a horrible person for saying it. Maybe I'm out of line. But whatever.
// You seem to have quite a thing for "not caring", I feel it in your "whatever"s and, most importantly, your "I don't care"s. Though, for being straightforward and honest it no longer bothers me. You're definitely not out of line or horrible for doing the right thing.
// I'm afraid putting up with things one doesn't like is a good thing(IMO) though, adaptation and tolerance are other good traits. I hope more people decide to find my style harder to read!

// Off-topic: The song "Doorbellsplosion" by "Kulor" is an awesome 8-bit song.

Come on dude...people are having a hard enough time trusting people in this business.

Find something positive to do with your time.
@Nohbdy: what really happens is that your text is very annoying to read so, very often, people won't read it. You're also one of the only posters who doesn't jump lines between paragraphs, despite what you said before, and that doesn't help either.

IMO, when we post on an online forum, we're trying to communicate, which means we should take notice when people have a hard time reading what we write.
Maybe I'm a horrible person for saying it. Maybe I'm out of line.
No, you're completely right. Those slashes are only slightly less annoying than all caps text, or l33t.

putting up with things one doesn't like is a good thing
You know what's even better? Not putting up with them. From now on, I'm collapsing all your posts on my side.
How is putting up with things you don't like a good thing? Suppressing your emotions is one of the WORST things you can do to yourself, mentally! When you have an emotive problem, you should solve it. Suppression just makes it bite you harder later on.

Having said that, I did put up with the double slashes thing (it is pretty annoying; and I commented on it a while ago but decided not to say anymore about it since you otherwise seemed a decent person) since it wasn't a really big deal.
No, you're completely right. Those slashes are only slightly less annoying than all caps text, or l33t.

Agreed.
