As for the "are you Chinese" question, the guy seemed to have difficulties with English. Maybe a Chinese speaker noticed something about the grammar that he recognized.

I thought he would be Chinese because of how he wrote and communicated. After peer reviewing a good amount of international student essays, you can notice a reoccurring sentence structure.

I'm not Chinese. I studied Chinese for a while last year when I was taking a break from university. I know just enough to probably navigate myself to and from places if I ever travel to China haha.
