This is a blog post from 4 June, yet today was the first I saw any of this.

I don't use Github much, so I don't see how this will impact the community.

Will this be a good thing, or not?

BTW, anyone else think the blue on blue silhouette in the picture is Hello Kitty?

It's the Github mascot, the cat-octopus thing.

Where I work we have a few people who specialize in MS technologies and none of us know what to make of this. MS does have a history of either ruining or stagnating the products it acquires. IMO Github was already stagnating, so perhaps this won't be so bad.

I use Github to save my code. I'm keeping a portfolio of all my works on Github. The sort of meme I've been seeing lately is that Microsoft ruins pretty much anything they get their hands on. I'm not sure if that's true. I've been using it normally ever since they have acquired it without any problems. Who knows what Microsoft intends to do with Github? We'll all see in the future, I guess.

To be honest I was already migrating from github to gitlab, especially after github's last UI update (or last at the time). This change only sped that up. I have no problems with another company owning github, but the fact that a major competitive company owns a tool used heavily by a lot of its competitors just spells trouble.
