Principal Engineer / Architect for Largest Online Retailer
Job Description:
The world's largest online retailer is looking for a Principal Engineer / Architect for the Seller Experience Division.
The Seller Experience division (group within Seller Services) is one of the fastest growing businesses within the firm. There are over 3 million merchants, ranging from students selling their text books to nation-wide retail chains, selling on our international marketplaces. Collectively, these merchants are responsible for selling about 1/3rd of all items ordered from the website world-wide and will generate several billion in sales this year alone. The revenue and free cash flow generated by the Seller Services business are at the same proportions.
Our system is a massively scaled ecommerce system that is a critical factor to the success of the firm, as well as our third party partners worldwide. For 2013 (and beyond) the team expects to grow the Marketplace Seller Business around the world. The long term vision is that any seller anywhere can start selling items in less than 60 seconds to consumers anywhere from any marketplace with the ability to deliver the same great customer experience. This is an already-large business that is continuing to grow at a high rate year-over-year and we have several new initiatives that will further accelerate this trend. The team is investing heavily in building a highly scalable global platform that can handle millions of transactions every month worth billions of dollars while maintaining buyers and sellers trust on the platform. The team aspires to provide sellers with state-of-the-art tools for managing their inventory and orders and financial reporting.
With such significant planned growth, Seller Services is looking to hire a Senior/Principal Level Engineer who is hands-on and is in an enviable position by leading by example for 35 other Engineers on the team. S/he will be delivering artifacts that set the standard for engineering excellence, from designs to algorithms to implementations. This person will be a pragmatic problem solver by balancing trade-offs between completing interests. Lastly, we expect this person to educate the entire technical organization about trends, technologies and approaches.
Basic Qualifications:
-BS in Computer Science or related field, MS preferred
-At least 8-10 years of software development experience
-Strong OO analysis and superior design and architecture skills in Java or C++
-Solid experience with XML, SOAP, REST, and web services
-Experience in developing distributed, highly scalable systems is a plus
-Strong verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated technical leadership
-Works well in a fast-moving team environment and is able to effectively drive cross-team solutions having complex dependencies and requirements
-Experience in handling large volumes of data
-Robust project planning/execution skills, including estimating, scheduling, and executing on committed schedules
-Engineering process expertise, with a full understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) principles
