Opportunities exist for Software Engineers to join the Spearfish Upgrade Software team as part of the Spearfish Upgrade (SFU) Demonstration and Manufacturing (D&M) Phase programme.
The SFU programme will see incremental development of the torpedo software to meet stretching operational and functional requirements. The mission critical on-board software is responsible for executive control of the torpedo and evaluation of sensor information, providing dynamic control, and interaction with the launch platform.
Your main responsibilities as a Software Engineer:
• Software Design using UML based on detailed system requirements. System interface specification definition in XML.
• Producing code-generated Ada from the UML models using the torpedoes bespoke Ada code generator.
• Build and integration of the Ada code for simulation on windows platforms as well as integration on real torpedo processor boards.
• Design and modification of VxWorks Operating System and BSP for torpedo processor boards.
• System and Software testing of software builds using a variety of test tools including Wind River System Viewer.
• Requirements generation and testing for the Ada code generator
Normally the engineer will work individually within a team, but may be required to supervise a small number of specialist staff in the context of specific work activities and projects.
Your skills and qualifications as a Software Engineer:
• Experience of software engineering for complex embedded real time systems
• Experience of software modelling, high level languages, software development and debugging environments, software testing.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Ability to effectively plan, co-ordinate and prioritise tasks
• Understanding of the Unifified Modelling Language (UML)
Desirable
• Experience of coding in Ada
• Use of configuration and change control tools (specifically ClearCase and ClearQuest)
• Experience of formal review process (Fagan Inspections)
• Knowledge of VxWorks
• Understanding of Digital Signal Processing
This is a full time role and will be based in Broad Oak, Portsmouth.
The job grade for this role is 16 with a competitive salary
