Damerau–Levenshtein

I'm currently implementing a Damerau–Levenshtein in something I'm working on. I've got something that works, but I don't really understand the logic behind it.

Don't suppose anyone can give me a link or provide an explanation as to how the array actually works? The only source I can find is the wiki page or references to the wiki page.
