Is it common for advanced professional coders to pass the deadline and get yelled by the boss?

I don't have a programming job but I heard that it's a real pain in the ass a myth or fact?
I wish I could get a programming job and find out...
Depends on where you work.

If you're working on a trading system for a major bank and there's a - erm - problem, then the traders tend to get very tetchy. But this kind of job pays very well, if you can handle the pressure.

P.S. By pass, due you mean you past? Or pass, as in pass a test, meaning you hit the deadline. But still get shouted at?
I used to be a developer at a Bank like Andy. I have never been yelled at but the pressure certain gets put on you, including all nighters. Especially if your deadline means $10,000 or more a day.

I now run my own software company and find the pressure is off. You just to need to ensure your customer/boss is always informed and there is ample time before a deadline.

Biggest problem I see with clients/bosses and programmers is the lack of communication, if there is an issue tell them. Especially well before the deadline.

Also, programmers are usually far too picky and try to release too much at once. You might find people will prefer a rough product now rather than a quality product later. Make all of these decisions your bosses or clients. e.g. Make it there problem not yours.
