AlcazarOnline Development

www.alcazaronline.com

General Information:

AlcazarOnline is a game being planned for development in the next few weeks. This will be a completely new game with graphics surpassing World of Warcraft and other high detailed games. AlcazarOnline may take anywhere from 1-2 years to create.

Do not ask to test this new game. Do not ask to be a staff member of AlcazarOnline as you will only be stopped in attempt to play and ignored.

Information and pictures will be supplied as we continue to program AlcazarOnline. Please remember we are not starting this project until late August.

All developers of the game will be paid $50 per month until the game opens up and therefore it will be risen to over $190 a month. If you would like to be a programmer for this game you will need to post an application which will be supplied later in the topic. If a programmer does not exert enough work ethic into the game the monthly wage will be lowered to a significantly low amount if any at all. Wages may only be introduced when AlcazarOnline is actually making physical progress.

AlcazarOnline will be a MMORPG game meaning more than one player can connect and play. AlcazarOnline will have player killing, markets, extremely good graphics and a stable clan system. These are just the main features in which we will be talking about in stages this early in it's development.

For the programmers who would like some of the programming philosphy being extracted into AlcazarOnline, the game will be programmed in C++ and the client in JAVA. The game will be written completely with correct conventions to supply a smooth gameplay system.

The previous is just general information, each aspect of it will be expressed in further detail as we continue reading.

How to become a part of AlcazarOnline:

Whether you wish to be a programmer, donator, staff member, viewer, beta tester or regular member theres a place for you. Although asking for majority of these ranks or positions is forbidden, I will go through step-by-step instructions of how to acheive each one.

In order to achieve any of these you must first register at the smf forums representing the game. The process to acheive each position is as follows:

Programmer:
1) Simply fill out the form which you will recieve later in the topic.
2) Now with the filled out form reply to this topic or any other topic seeking applications for AlcazarOnline.
3) Patiently wait for a reply informing you if you have received the position. This process may take anywhere from 1-14 days.

Staff member:
1) Act in an orderly fashion on all private server-related communtities.
2) Register on the official AlcazarOnline forums.
3) Be dedicated and enthusiastic to the progress of AlcazarOnline.

All of these positions require you to follow the rules and it is essential that you regularly check your messages for notice that you have been chosen for a position. Please also know that it is possible to have more than one position, Eg. Donator, Staff, Beta tester, programmer.

Donations:

To donate simply private message me on the official forums (Link will be supplied later in topic) saying the amount you have donated. The location to donate is:

Here

Donating will not benefit you in any way. It will benefit the game and all features related, including the date of its' opening. This will also allow us to add more features to the sites and game making them both function significantly faster and adding more convenient options to them. We appreciate all donations and understand if you cannot donate. Please do not complain about any factors of the speed or features without first donating as you do not have the right.

Programmers:

No programmer will be in possession of the whole game or for that fact any whole document. They will be given the code that they need to do certain activities but no more. If you are a trusted programmer you will recieve more than an average amount of information. It is simply a security issue. Programmers will be given a simple list of instructions depending on their skill level in which they will have to program. A programmer will not always be staff so therefore does not have any economical authority. I will start paying programmers about 6 months into the development. Only programmers who utilize their time sensibly will be ellegible to be paid. Unfortunately I cannot pay all programmers a reasonable amount until we start receiving donations.

To be a programmer for AlcazarOnline you must know either graphics design, C++, JAVA (Maybe). You must know at least one of these very well. It is essential that you know how to work from scratch and how to meet deadlines. Working with a team, communication and social skills are to be desired as it will make your programming environment and everybody elses tolerable and possibly enjoyable. We do not believe in conflict or revenge on other sites under any circumstances. Previous experience with multiple games is reccommended yet not essential.

LMBO, $1000 says this project goes no where. What a rude posting. Even if you might have a ligit company, this has got to be the worst PR move I have ever seen! Receive donations? This reminds me of the farce group xilvandesign.com, a bunch of high school and college grads role playing...

Argghhh. This is really terrible.

AlcazarOnline is a game being planned for development in the next few weeks. This will be a completely new game with graphics surpassing World of Warcraft and other high detailed games. AlcazarOnline may take anywhere from 1-2 years to create.

1-2 years? So your going to have a co-located team of 100> people? Included programmers, artists, animators, designers, project managers, sound artists?

All developers of the game will be paid $50 per month until the game opens up and therefore it will be risen to over $190 a month.

$50USD/Month? That would buy 1 hour of my time as a professional programmer each month.

No programmer will be in possession of the whole game or for that fact any whole document. They will be given the code that they need to do certain activities but no more.

Any whole document? So your only going to give each developer part of the design documentation? part of the coding standard?

Most developers WILL NEED all of the source code, either for the game, or the module they are working on. Otherwise how can they compile and test to ensure their code is bug-free?

Even preventing each member from accessing all of the code is going to be an admin nightmare in the source version control system.

It is simply a security issue

Never heard of an NDA? or a Legal Contract?

Programmers will be given a simple list of instructions depending on their skill level in which they will have to program.

Game dev is not simple.

the game will be programmed in C++ and the client in JAVA.

C++ makes sense, but I see no sense in having the client developed in Java. The performance hit you will receive is quite large, and especially important in an game like an MMO. Platform-compatibility can be achieved with C++ by using platform independent 3rd party toolkits (e.g Boost).

It is essential that you know how to work from scratch

I don't see how this is relevant. You should have a clear, and concise design document and standards. Project manager to relay the information to the senior developers and for task allocation.

Previous experience with multiple games is reccommended yet not essential.

Better get our your wallet and be prepared to pay >$50kUSD/year for this experience. But $80kUSD>year is more likely.

All and all. It appears you have absolutely no knowledge of game design, game development, project management or medium/large scale software development.

Game development is extremely difficult, requires large teams of people (and MMO more so) and the majority of these people are not programmers either. As for the programmers, you need high calibre programmers, not just your ave comp grad. For perspective's case; Half-Life 2 took 5years to build, with professionals.. working full time... getting paid.

I give this a 0% chance of success. But for interests sake, and other peoples benefits here are some question's I'd like answered.

-> What Operating system will the client run on?
-> What Operating system will the server run on?
-> Backend Database?
-> Server Architecture for the software?
-> Database architecture?
-> Network architecture?
-> How complete is the design documentation?
-> What is your skill/experience with software development?
-> Will you really pay 100+ ppl $50/USD a month?
-> Do the developers get royalties from the game sales/subscriptions?
-> Have you consulted a lawyer about the NDA/Contracts/Licensing?
-> What version control system will be used?
-> What is the preferred IDE(s) for developers?
this is an laugh-about xD... sorry^^... zero future for that :D...
Please do not complain about any factors of the speed or features without first donating as you do not have the right.

Rofl...Players damn well have the right to complain if they haven't donated, if no-one wants to play your game (I'm assuming its P2P), then you are out of money for not listening to players opinions.

Also, I agree with all of the above...this game is probably going nowhere.
