As an aside to your assignment, I realise it's not part of it, an advanced menu choice can be made to play tic-tac-toe or 3-in-a-line. By now you can see that would only require a small change/addition to the Board class.

yes I feel like I should've worked on something like that before trying this assignment.
Depends what you mean - both are so close to being the same all it requires is a few tweaks to the class to change from one to the other.
My guess is if the assignment had the requirement that both games should be available with the one program, very few students would get a pass. The only reason tic-tac-toe came up is I misinterpreted the original question. Fortunately the two games aren't all that different.
